The existing patio was four separate slabs poured over about fifteen years, all at slightly different heights and all sloping back toward the house.

We removed the lot, re-graded away from the foundation, and poured one 520-square-foot slab with a slate stamp and a two-tone release. Control joints were cut into the pattern rather than across it, so they read as part of the stone lines instead of as cracks.

The grill surround sits on its own thickened footing so it will not settle away from the main slab.

Scope of work

  • 520 sq ft single pour, fibre-reinforced
  • Slate stamp with integral colour and antiquing release
  • Re-graded to fall away from the foundation
  • Penetrating sealer, re-coat recommended at year three
